North Devon Backs Chemo Appeal

North Devon's digging deep to raise £2.2 million for a new chemotherapy unit at North Devon District Hospital.

Fund-raisers want to build a completely separate unit on the site of the main hospital.

At the moment around 25 patients are treated each day, but the present unit is cramped and has few facilties.  Also, cancer sufferers, who can be at great risk of infection, have to walk through the hospital to reach the unit.

Already £450,000 has been raised through coffee mornings, collections and even a sky-dive.

Fund-raiser Ian Broome told Heart 5,000 patients are treated for cancer in North Devon each year and a new unit is much needed.
