RNLI warning to Respect the Water during ‘deadliest’ month at the south west coast
Safe Swimming in North Devon
Visitors to Westward Ho! and Woolacombe beaches in North Devon can now check live bathing water quality information every day on a new website developed by South West Water.
They are two of 21 Blue Flag or popular beaches to be featured on the Beach Live site - www.beachlive.co.uk - with live information feeds from 16 beaches.
'Blue flags' will be posted on the Beach Live website when there is no risk to water quality from combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in the sewerage system.
On the rare occasions when significant overflows do happen – normally during or after storms 'amber' warnings will be posted on the site and beach operators will be notified by email.
The site also features up-to-the-minute surf and weather forecasts plus information about beach facilities, past bathing water quality awards and how the public can do their bit to avoid pollution by proper waste disposal.
