Walk of Life from Devizes to Bath

A 21 mile sponsored walk along the Kennet and Avon canal is raising funds for the RUH Space Cancer Care Campaign.

The Walk of Life event, organised by the RUH Forever Friends Appeal, is taking place on Saturday 26th May. It sets off at 9am from Devizes Wharf, heads through Bradford-On-Avon and finishes just off the canal in Sydney Gardens, Bath.

You can choose the full 21 mile challenge, or either the 12 mile morning section of the walk from Devizes to Bradford-On-Avon or 9 miles in the afternoon from Bradford-On-Avon to Bath.

This year’s Walk of Life event has been sponsored by the Bath based national property management company, Touchstone, who have chosen The Forever Friends Appeal as their 2012 charity of the year. Staff members from Touchstone will not only be participating in the walk but will also be helping marshal the route and encourage all walkers along the way.

The Walk of Life was created with and in memory of loving wife, sister, mother and daughter Vanessa Kyte, who sadly lost her life in November 2007 having lived with cancer for seven years. Vanessa was extremely passionate about fundraising for cancer care. In 2011, the Walk of Life raised an astounding £20,000 for the RUH Space for Cancer Care Campaign – towards a state-of-the-art Gamma-CT Scanner. Vanessa Kyte’s sister, Nicola Noble from Warminster, has continued Vanessa’s fundraising drive and says:

"2011 raised the fantastic sum of £20,000! Hopefully this year will be even better, raising funds towards equipment that will benefit so many departments within our fantastic local hospital. It is such a beautiful walk that gives everyone the opportunity to remember their loved ones. A Gamma-CT Scanner might seem like a big lump of metal but is so important for helping save lives. We are also so pleased to welcome Touchstone on board with the walk and are very much looking forward to getting to know all their team !"

The RUH Space for Cancer Care Campaign has raised over one third of the £650,000 needed for a state-of-the-art new Gamma-CT Scanner – the first fundraising phase of the Campaign.
