Win A Family Day Out At The Roman Baths
Gracie and Gus visit the Roman Baths
Pack your family days out with history and fun at The Roman Baths this half term. There's so much to see, do and discover as you're transported back over 2,000 years to the times of Julius Caesar.
Come and take a wander through the magnificent temple area and around the Great Bath, one of the greatest religious spas of the ancient world which still flows with natural hot water, and see how many unique objects you can find along the way. They're grim and compelling with a reusable toilet sponge, ‘strigels’ and curse tablets all to be spotted.
You can sit back and watch film projections and digital reconstructions of the Roman lifestyle and get a real feel for what it would have been like back in 753BC. There's also free public guided tours you can get involved in too.
The kids will love walking around wearing their headset and listening to the specially-designed children's audio guide while pointing out all of the fun facts on the way. They'll learn loads of fun, strange facts too like Romans used olive oil instead of soap. Yuk! and Romans didn't wear swimming costumes. Ew!
Lively and colourful Roman characters, based on real people who lived and worked at Aquae Sulis 2,000 years ago might pop out along the tour to guide you through all of the action. You could meet the Roman solider and armourer or maybe you'll see Flavia & Apulia the Roman lady and slave girl.
Sulinus and Brucetus the stonemasons are also on hand to teach you a bit of history and the priest Gaius Calpernius Receptus and travelling merchant called Peregrinus will be there too.
