Police investigating handbag thefts in Mid Bedfordshire have arrested two men.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of robbery after members of the Biggleswade Safer Neighbourhood Team stopped a vehicle in East Road, Langford, at 4pm yesterday (Tuesday, Feb 8).

The men were taken to Luton Police Station where they are still being questioned.

The arrests follow an incident just 26 minutes earlier when a bag was snatched from a 78-year-old woman in Manor Close, Langford, and another at 3.20pm yesterday (Tues Feb 8) when a bag was taken from 54-year-old woman in Clifton Road, Henlow.

The offences followed another at 10.30am on Saturday (Feb 5), where a bag was taken from an 88-year-old woman as she walked along in Mead End, Biggleswade.

Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant, Jon Woodroff, said: “This is a significant development in this inquiry, but we are still keen for anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact the Biggleswade Safer Neighbourhood Team, in confidence, on 01234 841212 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
