Beds Police are under investigation after a student was left with serious neck injuries when he was arrested outside a Bedford nightclub on Monday.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) are asking any witnesses to the arrest of the 19 year old outside Elements nightclub in Mill Streets between 1 and 2am to come forward.

They are investigating the arrest and restraint of the man involving police and door staff. The man has suffered serious neck injuries and is currently in hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.

The injured man is black, 5ft 5ins tall, of muscular build, with short hair and a short beard, and was wearing a white T-shirt and black combat trousers, with black Nike trainers. He is a student living in Bedford.

IPCC Commissioner, Mary Cunneen, said: "We are independently investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's arrest and the injuries he sustained, and it is important that we speak to anyone who witnessed events in or around Elements nightclub that morning. We would also be grateful for any mobile phone footage that may have been recorded. We will be carefully examining how the man sustained a very serious injury."
