Officers from Bedford’s Tasking and Intelligence Teams have been out in force in the past week and arrested eight offenders for drug dealing, burglary and handling stolen property across the town.

The first arrests (last Monday – March 28) involved two offenders suspected of selling drugs in Foster Hill Road. Officers detained a man after he attempted to drive away but was stopped by a police officer who risked injury by grabbing the keys from the ignition. A search of the area found a quantity of what is believed to be Class A drugs in a garden nearby.

His accomplice was arrested from a house in Stanley Street where cash, phones and a quantity of suspected cocaine and heroin were also recovered. Both men have been interviewed and released on bail pending further analysis of the drugs.

In a separate investigation the following day (March 29) officers arrested and charged a man with burglary after extensive searches of his home address and the recovery of stolen property. He was subsequently charged with two burglaries & possession of Heroin and remanded in custody.

On Friday (April 1) a second man was also arrested after officers executed a search warrant at an address in Barkers Lane and recovered stolen property from house burglaries in Bedford. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

On Tuesday April 5, following a report of a suspicious incident where somebody was seen climbing into a neighbours garden, officers from the Tasking Team responded and saw a man entering onto a property in Chaucer Road.  Upon his arrest and search a quantity of what is believed to be Cannabis was recovered. The man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

On the same day two men and a woman were arrested after they were reported attempting to sell a large quantity of electrical goods at Cash Exchange. They had been seen earlier at various premises in the town centre trying to sell items of jewellery. As one of the offenders left the shop he was detained by two officers, who after a violent struggle arrested him. A second man and a woman were also arrested at the time. All three offenders have been handed over to Northamptonshire Police for offences they are investigating.

DCI Bob Johnston, from Greyfriars Police Station said: “All of these arrests reflect a typical week in the life of Bedfordshire Police where teams of officers are making arrests, fighting crime and protecting the public. The combined effort of our Tasking Team, investigation teams, intelligence officers, PCSOs and partners who control the town’s CCTV, really does bring results and has led to the arrest of eight significant offenders.”
