Woman Assaulted in Bedford

Detectives in Bedford are appealing for information following an assault on a woman during the early hours of Sunday morning (Sunday 3 April).

The assault took place between 3am and 4am on Barkers Lane, Bedford between the Tidy Tip and Priory Marina.

The 21 year old victim was walking along the road when a man approached her and tried to talk to her. She ignored him and continued walking, but as she passed him she felt a blow to the back of her head. As she turned to challenge the offender, she was hit to the side of her face and fell to the ground. The offender continued to assault her when two men intervened allowing the victim to get away.

During the assault the victim lost her top and as she ran away she also lost her shoes and handbag which have not been found.

The offender is described as a white man aged approximately 25 years old. He is around 6 feet tall and was wearing glasses and a white top.

Detective Constable Julia Searle, investigating said: “This is a rare but nasty assault during which the victim received severe bruising to her face and a small cut to her head. We are very keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, especially the two men who disturbed the offender. We would also like to recover the victim’s missing property which consists of clothing and a handbag.”
