Fire Caused £1.5m In Damages

Detectives investigating a £1.5 million pound arson at a haulage firm in Beadlow near Shefford in Beds are appealing for witnesses.

Between 12 and 16 lorries were destroyed in the blaze at Thomas Bros Excavations Ltd, Top Farm on Shefford Roadat around 3am on Bank Holiday Monday

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately. No one was on the site at the time and fire fighters spent several hours bringing the blaze under control.

DC Amanda Durrant, investigating, has been telling Heart:

"Someone has deliberately set fire to this property and caused a colossal amount of damage. We estimate the lorries and fuel combined is around one and a half million pounds -a significant loss to the owner. If anyone knows who or why someone wants to target this business, or saw the offenders hanging around the area between midnight at 3am, then please contact the police."
