British Transport Police (BTP) detectives are appealing for the public’s help following a dog attack that left a man from Letchworth Garden City needing plastic surgery.
The incident happened at around 2.10am on Tuesday, 1 January at Hammersmith London Underground Station.
Detective Constable Tim Barnes, the investigating officer, said: “The victim, a 20-year-old from Letchworth Garden City in Hertfordshire, was waiting for a train with his friends on the eastbound Piccadilly line platform.
“A man entered the station with a pitbull-type dog on a lead and made his way to the same platform.
“The victim bent down and put out his hand to stroke the dog but the animal jumped forward and bit his face.
“The victim sustained injuries to his nose and lips, which required surgery.”
Officers are now releasing CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
DC Barnes said: “We’ve carried out a number of enquiries to try and establish the identity of this man, including speaking to witnesses and circulating images on police intelligence systems, but to no avail so far.
“If you recognise him, or have any information that could help our investigation, please contact us.”
