A 49 year old man's been stabbed several times by a group of young people in an unprovoked attack.

He was approached while walking along Hillgrounds in Kempston, Bedfordshire just before midnight on Saturday 27 August 2011 when he was approached by a group of youths.

One called out "Let's get him" and the victim was then stabbed a number of times in both legs.

The youths fled towards Bedford Road after the attack.  The victim managed to get to his home address where he called an ambulance which took him to Bedford South Wing Hospital for treatment. He was kept in overnight.

Detective Constable Ian Johnson said: "This was a particularly nasty assault which could have resulted with far more serious injuries to the victim. Thankfully his wounds were not life threatening, but it is imperative that we catch whoever did this.

"I am keen to speak with any motorists or pedestrians who may have seen this incident take place. We need the public's assistance to help us catch the people who did this and stop them from committing similar offences in the future."

Anyone who may have witnessed what happened or has further information is asked to contact DC Johnson at Greyfriars Police Station on 01234 275397, text 07786 200011 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
