Police are investigating how a Polish man received serious head injuries just 15 minutes after leaving a Tesco's store in Bedford.

The 26 year old, who lives in Grosvenor Street, left the shop at 7:41 on Saturday evening.

He was later found by a female passer-by lying in a lay-by on Cardington Road just outside the shopping complex at 7:55pm.

He is now in a critical condition at Addenbroke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

Police are unsure how he became injured and would urge any witnesses to come forward.

They particularly want to speak the woman who stopped and tried to help, but didn’t leave her details with the ambulance crew.
