Singing Polar Bear Under Investigation

A six foot mechanical bear that dances and sings Christmas songs has found himself under investigation from Central Bedfordshire Council after someone complained he was a noise nuisance.

Bernard The Bear bursts into songs like Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas whenever someone walks passed the Loft Cafe in Shefford, but it seems not everyone appreciates his dulcit tones.

Conner Farndon, whose family own the bear and cafe, says he just can't believe someone would be so petty "You don't really know what to think because he's such a harmless bear. We put it out for the kids and it's part of our Christmas decorations and to hear someone's been complaining about that, it makes you wonder, where has the Christmas spirit gone?"

Since the news spread through the town that Bernard was under investigation, Conner says they've received overwhelming support "There's been a guy going round all the businesses yesterday with a 'Save Our Bear' support group sign, and everyone's been coming in and offering support and offering a hand and saying it's ridiculous.

"Unless we're told otherwise, we're going to keep him there because he does bring so much cheer and we've had so much support for him we can't take him away now."

We spoke to Central Bedfordshire Council who said they've visited the premises a number of times and they've deemed the bear not to be a nuisance.
