Women Hit By Lorries Die

A woman's died after being hit by a lorry on the A1 near St Neots in Cambridgeshire, just a few hours after another woman was killed on the M1 between Northampton and Milton Keynes.

The A1 crash happened on the southbound side of the dual carriageway at Southoe nr St Neots just before 8.30pm on Tuesday 27 March 2012.

The road was closed for three and a half hours to allow an investigation to be carried out, reopening just before midnight.  The lorry driver - a 47 year old from Peterborough - was uninjured.

The M1 crash happened on the motorway's southbound carriageway just before 11am the same day.  The M1's southbound carriageway was closed between Junction 15 for Northampton and 14 for Milton Keynes for three hours, reopening in the mid-afternoon.

Cambridgeshire Police are investigating the crash near St Neots.  Thames Valley Police are looking into the circumstances of the M1 crash, and say they found a car on the hard shoulder near the site of the crash which they think belonged to the victim.
