Newbury's "love bench" has been put to use, with it's first proposal.

The bench was installed at Newbury Racecourse in time for a flurry of expected proposals on Valentines Day. Heart's been shown the pictures from the first proposal on the bench, when racing fan Andy Painter popped the question to his partner of twelve years, Pam Tomkin.

The love bench seemed like the perfect place for romantic Andy to get down on one knee, because it meant he did not have to miss seeing his horse come in!

Love story:

The couple, from Wokingham, met at The Dog and Duck 12 years ago, when Andy was on the darts team and Pam was a barmaid.

Pam's excited to finally get hitched to Andy and said, “He is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I am thrilled that we are finally making our relationship ‘official’. I can't wait to marry him…even though it means my name will be Pammie Painter!”

Pam and Andy plan to get married in Cornwall next September.
