Sister collects Elizabeth Cross

A Thames Valley woman is picking up a medal for her brother later nearly forty years after he died serving the country.

The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, The Hon Mrs Mary Bayliss JP, is to present an Elizabeth Cross and Memorial Scroll to the family of Sergeant John Moores of the Coldstream Guards and former member of the Special Air Service at a ceremony in the West Court Officers' Mess in Arborfield.

The Elizabeth Cross, which bears the name of HM The Queen, is presented on her behalf to the families of Armed Forces personnel killed in action. It is an official mark of recognition of their loss from the nation.

Mrs Gill Stratton from Maidenhead, Sister of Sgt John Moores of the Coldstream Guards and SAS who died on duty 8th October 1971 whilst serving in Yemen.

Sergeant Moores' brother, nephews and niece will also be at the ceremony this afternoon.
