40 year old murder appeal

On March 31st 1970 11 year old Phillip Edward Green left home in Seamills and never returned.

His father reported him missing later that evening.

After a major search Phillip's body was found on Shirehampton Golf Course on Wednesday April 1st 1970.  It's thought he was killed as he collected golf balls at the course.

His body, along with a broken, blood-stained oak branch, was found under trees and has previously been examined for DNA evidence but this proved negative. Other exhibits have also drawn a blank.

At the time of the murder house to house enquiries were conducted and covered a total 54 roads, 1754 houses and 6524 statements were taken. The offender was never identified and to this day the case remains open.

Detective Constable Clare Nelson of the Major Crime Review Team has told Heart: "For 40 years Philip Green's family have lived with this brutal crime and have not had closure.

"Someone out there has the information that could solve this murder and provide Philip's family with the answer they need to move on.

"I am sure that over the last 40 years people's priorities have changed. I would urge anyone with information to contact us. It does not matter how small that piece of information is, let us decide if it is relevant."

Anyone with any information which could help the inquiry is asked to call the Major Crime Review Team on 0845 456 7000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
