Bridge Valley Road may stay closed

The road was shut in March for work to make a retaining wall safe.

Bristol City have now told Heart that work to make the retaining wall safe enough to re-open Bridge Valley Rd to traffic could cost up to £3 million pounds.  They have also told us it may take until Spring 2011 to complete.

Council Cabinet Member Cllr Gary Hopkins has now revealed they are looking at the possibility of a less expensive alternative: "We are even considering the possibility of a slightly cheaper job, which even so would not be cheap (at) £2 million pounds, to just make it safe to stop all the stuff tumbiling down onto The Portway.  That would mean the closure of the road."

"I would be interested in the public's opinion on this...saving £1 million pounds by doing a safe repair, that though does mean the road is impassable, is something we have to give serious consideration to."
