Local people are being invited to an exhibition of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s proposals to improve Keynsham’s traffic flows and help pedestrian movement as part of the £34 million project to regenerate the town centre.
An event will take place on Tuesday 14th February 2012, 12.30pm – 7pm at Unit 1 (former Peacocks) The Centre. People can view the ideas, results of recent traffic surveys and the studies which tested various options including a full gyratory and one-way traffic along the High Street. Presentations will take place at 1pm, 3pm, and 6pm where people can view highways computer modelling work.
Councillor Roger Symonds, Cabinet Member for Transport, said, “Getting the highways aspect of this project right is absolutely crucial to the long-term success of regenerating Keynsham town centre. Bath & North East Somerset Council has listened to the views of local people in Autumn 2011 in response to a range of highways options we put forward that could accommodate the proposed regeneration. Having tested the options we are proposing a one-way system south bound on the High Street/two-way on Ashton Way and we want local people to fully understand the impact this proposal would have on the town centre.”
The development of the highways proposals follows hot-on-the-heels of the Council last month appointing Willmott Dixon Construction as its delivery partner for the regeneration project that will include new space for shops, new streets and spaces, a one stop shop and library, and replacement, environmentally-friendly Council offices. A planning application will be submitted for the scheme and a further exhibition of the overall proposals will be held in Spring 2012.
