A 17 year old boy has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body in the River Cam.

The body of 53 year old Raymond Boyle was pulled out of the river near Jesus Green after being found by a member of the public just after 2am on Wednesday morning.

Cambridgeshire Police said the man was discovered with "facial injuries" in water near Jesus Green.

A 17 year old boy, who can't be named for legal reasons, has been charged with Mr Boyle's murder and is due to appear at Cambridge Magistrates Court this morning (Saturday 25th June).

An 18 year old man, also arrested in connection with the murder, has been released on police bail until August.

A post-mortem on the body has revealed that the man died "as a result of a sustained attack, coupled with being immersed in water".

Police believe the man died between 1am and 1:30am yesterday.

Detective Chief Inspector George Barr said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area on Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday morning and saw anybody acting suspiciously.

Enquiries to trace the victim's next of kin are ongoing.

However, we can say he had been living on the city's streets for several weeks.

This appears to be an unprovoked attack and I would like to stress this is being treated as an isolated incident."
