Building work on Cambridge's new fire station could start next spring.

Cambridge City Council planners agreed to grant planning permission for the new building yesterday, which will replace the current ageing Parkside HQ which was built in the 1960s.

99 apartments will be built on top of the fire station, along with a new shop as part of the development. [Artist impression - top right]

Originally, more than 130 flats were included as part of the development but this number was reduced after local opposition.

While the existing Parkside building is demolished firefighters will be based at a temporary site in Coldhams Lane, Cambridge.
