A student from Anglia Ruskin University, suspected of throwing a fire extinguisher at police during this week's student fees protest, has been released on bail.

The 23 year old man, originally from Reading but studying in Cambridge, was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder yesterday evening.

He was questioned at Parkside Police Station in Cambridge before being released on bail.

A London Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "He has been bailed to return to a London police station pending further inquiries."

It's believed the extinguisher, which was thrown off the top of Millbank Tower on Wednesday, narrowly missed two territorial support group officers, brushing down the back of one and hitting the knees of another.

56 people were arrested in connection with the disturbances in London on the day, mostly between the ages of 18 and 26.
