A drug dealer who sold cannabis from his boat in Ely for two decades has been sentenced.

44 year old Ian Philips, was found to have drugs worth more than £10,000 on his canal boat when officers raided it in Littleport in January.

Officers found a large amount of cannabis along with amphetamine, cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with two counts of possessing class A drugs and possession with intent to supply cannabis, MDMA and amphetamine.

He admitted all six charges at Cambridge Crown Court. He admitted selling drugs in the area for the past 20 years but said he had done so to fund his own drug habit.

Philips was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, given a six-month supervision order and ordered to carry out 200 hours' unpaid work.

Detective Constable Mark Beaven said: "Drug dealing in any form is not acceptable and we will continue to disrupt any such criminality. This man was responsible for selling drugs to people in Ely and Littleport over a 20 year period, hopefully this will have an impact on the use and supply of drugs in the area."
