Newmarket: Police Hunt BMX Attacker

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in Newmarket's Fred Archer Way.

Police have told Heart the incident occurred at around 6pm yesterday (Thurs Sept 12) at a supermarket car park.

The victim, a woman in her fifties, was walking across the car park when she was approached by a man on a BMX bike who attempted to grab her handbag and in the process of doing so, pulled her to the floor.

The suspect then shouted at the victim to give him her handbag before striking her twice to the head and stealing the bag.

The suspect then rode off in the direction of Yellow Brick Road via the pedestrian entrance to the car park. The victim was left shaken but her injuries are not thought to be serious.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early twenties, of a slim build between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall. He was wearing a charcoal grey hooded top with the hood up, dark coloured trousers and dark footwear.

Update 16th September:

A 29 year old man from Newmarket has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently being held in custody at the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
