Extra police officers are patrolling the Cambridgeshire village of Willingham, after a woman was seriously sexually assaulted there.

The woman, in her 20s, was walking on the footpath leading from Mill Road to Rampton Road when she says she was grabbed by a man.

The victim claims the attack happened between 10:30pm on Wednesday and 1:00am on Thursday.

She then went to Rampton Road, where she was helped by a resident who called police.

The man is white and described as being in his teens or 20s, with brown hair and brown eyes, around 5'11" and muscular but of average build.

He was wearing tracksuit bottoms and a hooded jacket.

Detective Sergeant Andy Crocker said: "I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and thinks they may have seen something or have information about this incident to contact me.

Any information, no matter how small, could prove vital in tracing the man responsible."

As a precaution patrols in the area have been increased and officers are urging women to take the usual precautions when walking alone, such as sticking to busy well lit areas.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Crocker on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
