St Ives Man Jailed For Attempted Murder

A man from St Ives has been jailed for 11 years for attempted murder.

25 year old, Rafal Graczyk from Alwyn Close, pleaded guilty at a previous hearing and was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court earlier.

Officers were called early in the morning on February the 7th by a distressed woman who asked for police and then hung up.  The member of staff who answered the 999 call was able to trace the call to Graczyk’s home and officers rushed to the address.  When they arrived they found his 21-year-old partner lying on the ground with stab wounds. She was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries and underwent surgery.

She later described to officers how the previous day she had told Gracyzk she was leaving him and that morning, as she got ready for work, he had become violent.  During the incident he told her he would kill her or their baby and that she must choose.  After saying she chose herself he stabbed her repeatedly.

Detective Constable Sarah Fines said: "Graczyk is a violent man who showed no remorse for the suffering he put his partner through.

"She has shown great courage throughout this process and I hope today’s result will provide her with some closure to this horrendous experience.”
