Dragon Boat Festival Peterborough 2014

Once again, we're going to be joining in the fun that is Dragon Boat racing in Peterborough on Saturday June 14th 2014 and we'd love you to get involved!

Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today – as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!

Heart and Gable Events is proud to have joined with the children’s hospice service for families in Peterborough and the surrounding area, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), to bring you the 16th Peterborough charity dragon boat festival, this year being staged for the first time at Peterborough Rowing Lake, Thorpe Meadows, PE3 6LN. The Festival is open to everyone and up to 52 crews are expected to battle it out over the 200m race course, watched by several thousand spectators. The central Peterborough location offers a superb venue for racing and a fabulous day is guaranteed with plenty of bankside family entertainment including funfair activities, inflatables and children’s rides plus a variety of food stalls and bar.

Standard entry includes:

  • Dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment
  • At least 3 races per crew
  • Music and entertainment
  • Souvenir programme
  • Trophies for the top three crews, the best-placed mixed crew (minimum 5 ladies), the crew raising the most money for EACH and the ‘best dressed’ crew

About East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is the children’s hospice service for families in Peterborough and the surrounding area. EACH helps life-threatened children and their families with the challenges they face, by providing a range of care in a home-from-home environment at the hospice in Milton, near Cambridge, or in the comfort of their own home. Some children may only have a very short time to live, others may reach young adulthood, but EACH’s aim is always the same – to enhance their quality of life and make the most of the time available.

EACH is hugely reliant on voluntary donations to continue to provide the services they do – these include short break care, specialist play, music therapy, sibling groups and bereavement counselling, as well as the all-important end of life care. In the words of one parent “I just want everyone to know how amazing EACH is and the amazing job they do – without them I just couldn’t cope. They are lifesavers.” To find out more, or for other ways you can help, visit www.each.org.uk or  call 01223 205180
