Another Cambridge Busway Crash

Another single decker bus has careered off the Cambridge Guided busway.

Back in February, a similar scene was played out as a single decker ended up half-way up an embankment after the driver was going too fast; it's not known at this stage what caused this morning's crash.

We're told the busway will be shut between Addenbrooke's and Trumpington all day.

Cambridgeshire County Council have issued a statement to Heart:

“There was an incident on the Busway were a Stagecoach vehicle left the track just after the Trumpington cutting travelling towards Trumpington. No one was injured in this accident and there were no passengers on the vehicle.

We will be carrying out a full investigation with the bus operator to find out what happened. We would like to reassure passengers that the Busway has seen millions of journeys since it opened and remains a very safe way to travel.”

Back in February, a similar scene was played out as a single decker ended up half-way up an embankment after the driver was going too fast; it's not known at this stage what caused this morning's crash.

Cambridgeshire Police say they were called at about 7.35am at Hauxton Road following reports from a member of the public that a bus had come off the bus way.

There were not any passengers on board and the driver was not injured.

Andy Campbell Stagecoach East Managing Director said:

"At around 07.40 am today (Thursday 7 July), one of our vehicles left the Guided Busway between Addenbrooke's and Trumpington. There were no passengers on board at the time; the bus driver is uninjured.

As a result of the incident, services are currently diverted between Trumpington & Addenbrookes. All stops are still being served with the exception of Foster Road.

As well as carrying out our own investigation, and accessing on-board CCTV footage, we will work with the police and other relevant bodies to establish the cause of this incident as quickly as possible."
