Donkey Rescued From Water-Filled Drain In Heydon
A donkey's had to be freed from a drain, after getting stuck up to it's head in water, in South Cambridgeshire.
It was trapped in a seven foot storm drain off Chishill Road in Heydon on Monday night.
Two crews and the rescue vehicle from Cambridge were called.
Crews pumped out the drain and a mechanical excavator was used to clear the immediate area, together with firefighters using shovels.
Using large animal rescue gear, crews were finally able to lift the donkey to safety and leave it in the hands of the vet. It is believed the donkey was uninjured but exhausted.
Crew Commander Jeff Whitlam said: "We'd like to thank everyone who came to help, particularly the machine driver and veterinary staff for all their great work and support. The crew worked tremendously hard with persistence and professionalism in what was a long and difficult rescue. It was a great team effort with everyone there and thankfully it had a happy ending."
