Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Rape In Haverhill

A man has been arrested following an allegation of sexual assault in Haverhill.

The attack happened when a 19-year-old woman had been walking along Crowland Road between 3-4am on Sunday 31 August.

The woman had been returning home after a night out in the town centre with friends when she was approached by a man who assaulted her.
 
During the course of the day, the woman has been with medical staff and specially-trained officers at the county's Sexual Assault Referral Centre. It is now thought that she may have been sexually assaulted or raped.
 
On Sunday evening, a 31-year-old man was arrested at his home address in the Haverhill area on suspicion of rape and is now being questioned by detectives at the police investigation centre in Bury St Edmunds.
