Man Arrested Over Torso Murder In Peterborough

Police investigating the murder of a woman in Peterborough have arrested a man in connection with the inquiry.

The 57-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested in Clipston Walk, Peterborough, at about 7pm yesterday evening (Sunday) and is currently in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.

Officers are no longer appealing for the public's help in tracing 57-year-old Vitautas Jokubauskas.

Officers were called to a property in Mayor's Walk, Peterborough, at just after 12.30pm on Friday (June 5) where they discovered the torso of a woman in a suitcase. Detectives confirmed the body had no arms, legs or head.

The body has not been identified, however, police are keen to trace a woman, believed to be Mr Jokubauskas' partner, who is only described as being about 40, slim, with black hair and also Lithuanian.

No further details on her are known at this time.

A cordon has been put up at the property in Mayor's Walk and police, including scenes of crime officers, remain at the premises.

The body has been removed from the house and a post mortem examination is due to take place at Peterborough City Hospital later today (Monday).

The murder is being treated as an isolated incident and a dedicated murder team has been set up to investigate.

Anyone with information should contact the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
