March Road Closures Begin

Night time roadworks are to start tonight (23rd), as part of a £150,000 scheme to improve roads in March, including laying a quieter road surface to help residents.

Around 200 metres of new surface will be laid by Cambridgeshire County Council in Dartford Road on the approach to the traffic signals.

This will use a material called Superflex which will provide a quieter running surface on the approach to the traffic signals, much like the new surface laid along Station Road and High Street.

Work will start at the junction with Elliot Road on Thursday 23 July and is expected, weather dependent, to be carried out over two nights.

To make sure the works can be carried out as quickly and safely as possible the road will be closed between 8pm and 2.30am with a signed diversion will be in place.

Once the Dartford Road scheme is completed, night time works are due to start from 27 July until the morning of 1 August along Burrowmoor Road.

This much needed work includes replacing sections of deteriorating carriageway on a place to place basis from the junction of the A141 to the City Road roundabout.

To make sure the works are carried out as quickly as possible and with at least disruption to local residents the road will be closed between 7.30pm and 2.30am.

The resurfacing will start at the City Road end, making sure the works are past the junction with Gaul Road to take into account events going on at March Country Cricket Club.

The signals will be turned off at this location during the hours of work but will be on at all other times of the day. A diversion route will also be signed during the road closure.

Cambridgeshire County Councillor Roger Hickford, Chairman of the Highways and Community Infrastructure Committee, said: "This is a very busy and well used part of March which is why the road needs repairing. To make sure the works can be carried out as quickly as possible it is necessary to close the road, which is why we will be working at night to reduce disruption. This £150,000 scheme will also provide a much quieter road surface for residents and is part of the County Council's investment in maintaining roads and keeping Cambridgeshire on the move."
