Newnham in Cambridge has been named by The Sunday Times as The Best Place to Live in Britain.
The accolade comes in part three of The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide, which is published today (Sunday March 15).
The annual supplements combine data and statistics such as crime rates, house prices and school performance with the local knowledge and expertise of Sunday Times writers to compile the definitive top 50 towns and suburban locations to make your home.
In the supplement, Newnham is praised for its “village atmosphere”, and easy access to the “lively city centre”. The area’s academic credentials are praised, from “the excellent range of state and private schools”, to the fact it is “possibly the cleverest place in Britain”, as Cambridge is said to be home to “more Nobel prizewinners … than anywhere else in the UK”.
The rich community mix and beautiful green spaces such as the Paradise nature reserve and Coe Fen also contribute to Newnham’s selection as The Sunday Times Best Place to Live in Britain 2015.
The Sunday Times Best Towns and Suburbs to Live is the third in a four part series in partnership with Zoopla.
Parts one and two focused on rural idylls and the coolest city locations, while part three is published with The Sunday Times on Sunday March 15 and looks at the most attractive towns and suburbs which offer the best of both worlds.
Part four on Sunday March 22 will reveal The Best Places to Live Overseas.
