Roadworks At Black Cat Roundabout 'Slightly Delayed'

Work to reduce congestion on the A1 at Black Cat roundabout, on the Bedfordshire - Cambridgeshire border near St Neots, will be delivered by the end of March.

The work will see a new road alignment to enlarge and widen the existing roundabout, new safety fencing, improved drainage, new surfacing on the roundabout and installing lighting columns and traffic lights.

The scheme which began at the end of June is due to finish at the end of March 2015. The project was originally due to complete in February but because of additional works and the weather it has been slightly delayed.

Highways Agency's project manager for the scheme, Mark Saunders, said:
"The improvements will finish later than anticipated because of the weather and additional works which we didn't anticipate.

"We found the road was in a worse state of repair than originally thought, so we have had to plane out more to compensate.
"We apologise for the delay and I'd like to thank drivers for their patience while these works continue."

The £5.6m scheme will ease congestion at this important roundabout, improve journey time for road users and improve safety.

It is part of the Government's £317million pinch point programme, which aims to boost local economies by reducing congestion and delays at key locations.
