Tesco bosses say they will soon start formal discussions, about their decision to bin three new stores in Cambridgeshire.

A £22 million Tesco store which was due to open last year, in Chatteris is among those binned by the retail giant.

The store  had been earmarked to open its doors to customers two months ago, but has ended up on the scrapheap without serving a single customer.

It was anticipated the store would create around 250 jobs but it has remained empty since its completion.

The store is one of 49 planned new-builds shelved by the retailer.

However, Tesco press officers have refused to disclose the full list, stating they wish to notify ``local councils and stakeholders'' personally rather than have them ``read about it in the media'', a spokesman said.

The following stores in Cambridgeshire are also among those being shelved:

-Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire

-Ely, Cambridgeshire
