Work To Stop Welney Road Flooding Starts In April
Plans to find a solution to stop a road in Welney flooding during the winter are on course and work should be ready to start in April.
Drivers face long detours when Wash Road is shut every time there's a lot of rain.
Heart's been told people from Mouchel (the infrastructure consultants) have met with the Environment Agency to consider the work and that proposals will now be finalised ready for work to start in April.
Plans being looked at include raising the level of the road, but it will be subject to funds being available and support for the case.
North East Cambs MP Steve Barclay, who has backed a campaign to solve the problem, has welcomed the news.
He said: "It is great the feasibility work is on target and that we should have a potential scheme to help solve this major problem within the next couple of months.
"Drivers face long, time consuming and costly detours when this road is closed due to flooding and the sooner we can find a solution the better."
