Troops from Colchester Garrison took time out from preparing for Afghanistan by helping redecorate a school.

Around 35 soldiers from 13 Air Assault Support Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, visited Old Heath Primary School during half-term. Armed with paintbrushes and tools, the soldiers painted one of the school's demountable buildings, used by the pre-school, and did some gardening.

Second Lieutenant Robert Treanor led the team. 2Lt Treanor said: "I put word out through Colchester Borough Council that there were soldiers looking to do volunteer work and this response from the school's headteacher seemed ideal. Even though the school was on half-term we are planning a follow-up so that the pupils can meet some of the soldiers."
