Stamps For Gold

The rowing historic Olympic Gold victory of Penzance's Helen Glover and Heather Stanning being marked with a special Royal mail stamp.

Royal Mail says it's the first time it has produced a stamp within 24 hours.

The pair also become the first all-female sports team to appear on a Royal Mail stamp, and as the first British gold medal winners of the Games, they are the first members of Team GB to appear on one of Royal Mail's Gold Medal stamps.

They are hoped to be the first of many.

The special stamp, which features an image of the golden girls smiling and waving to supporters following their historic win, will be on sale in more than 500 Post Office branches, including in Stanning's home town of Penzance, Cornwall, and Reading, Berkshire, where the pair live and train.

Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene said: ``We're delighted to be issuing these very special Gold Medal stamps to recognise our Olympic champion UK athletes. ``This is a first for Royal Mail and we are proud to play our part in celebrating the many victories this summer. ``We will be printing millions of stamps to enable customers to celebrate these sporting successes and I'm sure they will be treasured as unique souvenirs of Team GB's victories for years to come.''
