One of the big success stories of 2013 was the inaugural Bournemouth Marathon Festival. With miles of glorious, unspoilt golden sands and clear blue sea, Bournemouth and Poole provided a beautiful backdrop for a big running event and to over 9,000 participants. This year’s event on October 4th and 5th promises to build on this success offering runners an awesome, unrivalled running experience.
The autumn race date means Bournemouth Marathon Festival is the big end of season event where all the hard work you’ve put in during the year will pay off. Saturday hosts junior races, a Speed of Light 5k and a 10k, with the half and full marathon completing the line-up on Sunday. The course is fast and picturesque, making it a must-do for runners, fundraisers and anyone looking to set a PB!
What’s on offer?
There is a race for everyone at the Bournemouth Marathon Festival weekend - from the elite international athlete to youngsters still at primary school.
SATURDAY 4TH OCTOBER 2014
Starting on Bournemouth Prom and finishing near the BMF Hub in the Lower Gardens, Bournemouth this beautiful coastal route takes in the Bournemouth Pier.
4pm: Bournemouth Marathon Festival Supersonic race - 10k distance
Fast and flat, the Supersonic is the ultimate in 10k speed. Starting and finishing near the BMF Hub in the Lower Gardens, Bournemouth, this beautiful coastal route heads towards Boscombe before turning back towards Bournemouth and going around the historical Bournemouth Pier. It then moves into Poole on the flat and super fast beachfront promenade then turns to finish in the beautiful Bournemouth Lower Gardens.
7pm: Bournemouth Marathon Festival Speed of Light road race - 5k distance
Utilising the phenomenal prom and pier area at dusk, the 5k race is a running experience like no other, with the emphasis on light around the route. Starting on Bournemouth Prom and finishing near the BMF Hub in the Lower Gardens, Bournemouth, this beautiful coastal route takes in the Bournemouth Pier.
SUNDAY 5TH OCTOBER
8AM: Bournemouth Marathon Festival Half Marathon, starts at Kings Park Drive. The Bournemouth Half Marathon course follows the full Marathon route, taking in both Boscombe and Bournemouth Piers along this coastal route. This is running as it should be. 10AM: Bournemouth Marathon. Start points is Kings Park Drive. Inspired by the stunning coastal arena of Bournemouth & Poole this is the pinnacle of endurance athletics. Now is your chance to make 2013 your year by running the bournemouth marathon for charity - the only way to secure a place in the full marathon now that standard entries are closed.
