£100k Of Lead Stolen From Church Roof

Police are looking for thieves who've stripped one hundred thousand pounds worth of lead off a church roof in Dorset.

St Stephens Church on St Stephens Way in Bournemouth was targetted between 8am on Friday 4th November 2011 and 9am on Monday 7 November 2011.

Police Constable Matt Cave, of Bournemouth police, said:

“The value of the lead that was taken is approximately £100,000.

“A man was seen in the church grounds at around 3pm on Saturday 5 November 2011.

"He is described as white, aged between 20 and 30, of slim build, with a small head and long black wavy hair tied in a pony tail.

“As a substantial amount of lead was stolen, the mode of transport could either have been a large van or a smaller vehicle making several trips.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during that weekend to contact police as soon
as possible.

“Anyone with information about the offenders should contact Dorset Police urgently.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101.
