24% Drop In Anti Social Behaviour In North Bournemouth
Police have seen a 24 percent drop in anti-social behaviour in north Bournemouth after increased patrols this summer.
Officers worked closely with partners at Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and Bournemouth Borough Council to identify potential issues and behaviour early to prevent problems escalating.
The operation led to a 24 per cent reduction in the number of reported incidents of anti-social behaviour between 20 July 2014 and 10 September 2014 compared to the same time the previous year.
During this period reported incidents fell from 718 in 2013 to 542 in 2014. Overall reported anti-social behaviour in north Bournemouth dropped by 16.8 per cent – 405 incidents – from 2,410 between 1 April 2013 and 28 September 2013 to 2,005 during the same period this year.
North Bournemouth Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Edwards said:
“During the summer we have achieved a significant reduction in incidents of anti-social behaviour in North Bournemouth through the use of a number of initiatives.
“We used diversion tactics where possible to encourage young people to engage in local events and with Youth Services to minimise any anti-social behaviour over the summer period.
“Officers also worked hard trying to resolve long-term issues in the community. Throop and Muscliff Safer Neighbourhood Team worked with the council to close the car park at The Shack overnight. This action significantly reduced anti-social behaviour involving vehicles in the area.
“I would like to remind everyone that anti-social behaviour in our communities will not be tolerated and Dorset Police will continue to work with our partners to put a stop to it.”
