Another Pony Found Dead In The New Forest

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pony was found dead on a road in the New Forest on Wednesday, January 26.

The body of the animal was found on the B3054, on the east side of Crockford car park.

It is believed the pony had been hit by a vehicle sometime during the evening of Tuesday, January 25.

Vehicle parts, thought to belong to an Audi A4 estate or saloon car, were found at the scene.

PC Alison Tilbury, from the New Forest East Safer Neighbourhoods team, said:
“Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information about the Audi vehicle we believe could be involved.”

“We would also like to hear from any vehicle repair specialist who may have repaired a vehicle matching this description in the days since the incident occurred.”

She added: “We would also urge people to drive responsibly and to keep their speeds down at all times, particularly when driving on the open Forest roads during the hours of darkness. The animals there roam freely and can often act unpredictably.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Alison Tilbury at Hythe police station on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.

Earlier last week (Thursday Jan 27) a donkey was also hit by a vehicle on the B3055 Sway Road sometime between 8pm and 8.30pm.

The driver failed to stop.

PCSO Alan McCaffery, from the Country Watch team, said at the time:

“The injured juvenile jack donkey was found by a member of the public. It had several grazed and bleeding sections on its body which were consistent with vehicle impact.”

And before that, on January the 22nd, another pony was found, bleeding and with a broken leg at the side of the road on the B3054 at Hatchett Lane, Beaulieu
