Big Fire On Weymouth Industrial Estate

An investigation's started to work out what caused a big fire on an industrial estate in Weymouth.

At approximately 3.45pm yesterday afternoon - Thursday 5th April - Dorset Fire and Rescue Service was called to a large property fire on the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth.

At the height of this incident six fire engines, one aerial ladder platform and two water carriers attended. Around 45 firefighters tackled the flames.

Crews used three main lines, eight sets of breathing apparatus, and two ground monitors to extinguish this fire and protect surrounding buildings.

At this time we have no information on the cause of this incident. Two business units were fully involved in the fire - believed to be a clothing shop and a car workshop - with a third unit being affected by smoke.

Group Manager Craig Baker who attended this incident said "An investigation has begun into the cause of this fire. This was a very severe fire, which crews managed to get under control by 6.40pm, although they will be remaining on scene for some time yet dampening down."
