Bournemouth Roadworks To Start Again

Some major roadworks will get back underway in Bournemouth this week (Starting Jan 10th), after complaints from drivers that nothing was being done.

The work on Bournemouth Station Overbridge started in September, but for weeks now there’s been no sign of any workmen there.

Bournemouth Borough Council says it was delayed by all the bad weather before Christmas, but it should now be finished by the end of this month.

Works will be undertaken outside of the peak morning and evening rush hours, and will involve restrictions from the Ringwood direction down to a single traffic lane whilst the works are undertaken.

Following the completion of this critical part of the works, the final surfacing can be completed.

Ian Kalra, Transportation Services Manager, said:

"We have reviewed the critical parts of the remaining works and have worked with the contractor to establish a programme to complete the overall scheme in the shortest possible time. Whilst we acknowledge the daytime disruption that these works will regrettably cause, we trust that the travelling public will understand the importance of completing these works at the earliest opportunity."

The work has involved removing the existing road surface and verge areas on the bridge, installing a new protective waterproofing, surface water drainage and expansion joints.
