Cyclist Dies After New Forest Crash

A cyclist involved in a collision with a car in the New Forest on Sunday has died from his injuries.

James Atherton, 25, from Burgess Road, Southampton died in the early hours on Monday morning at Southampton General Hospital.

He had been involved in a collision at 10.50am on Sunday in Pitmore Lane, involving a grey Volkswagen Golf, driven by a 57-year-old man from Evesham, Worcestershire.

Mr Atherton, who was cycling with friends towards Pennington, sustained serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital where he died shortly before 2am the following morning.
