Dorset Police Officer Seriously Hurt

A police officer is in hospital in Dorchester with serious injuries following a road collision.

The officer, who was on duty, was hit by a white Renault flat-bed lorry on the A35 near Bridport in Dorset this afternoon.

Dorset Police said the officer, who was not in a vehicle at the time, was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester with "serious injuries''.

A spokesman said: "The pedestrian is a police officer who was on duty at the time.

"He was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.''

Dorset Police received a call at around 1.05pm reporting a road traffic collision, near Askers Hill in Bridport.

The vehicle is believed to be registered to a company in Dorchester.
