Fake Police Officer Hunted In Bournemouth
A man's pretended to be a plain clothed policeman to steal a driver's bank card in Bournemouth.
It happened some time between 9pm and 9.20pm on Wednesday 23 April 2014 along Ham Lane.
The victim, a 21-year-old Bournemouth woman, was driving along Ham Lane toward Longham when a vehicle travelling behind her illuminated a blue dashboard light, indicating for her to pull over.
She did and was approached by a man stating he was a police officer.
He conducted a search of her car before driving off in a dark coloured BMW estate which may have had '63' in the number plate.
It is thought that he took the victims bank card while searching the car. Detective Constable Jon Sainsbury, of Bournemouth CID, said:
"Following further enquiries, I am now able to release an e-fit of the offender who I am keen to identify as soon as possible.
"Although the man claimed to be a police officer, he was not wearing police uniform and did not show any identification.
"Should members of the public have any doubts, genuine Dorset Police officers will either be in uniform and happy to confirm their identity or show identification if they are not in uniform."
He is described as white, quite tall, about 35 years old with dark hair and stubble.
He had a local accent and was wearing jeans and a white shirt. He was also holding a radio. DC Sainsbury continued:
"I am appealing for anyone who recalls any suspicious activity in the area at the time and anyone with any information about the man responsible to contact police.
"I would urge anyone who recognises him to call 101."
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 23:449.
Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
