A couple on holiday on Portland have been badly hurt after they were allegedly attacked by four teenagers.

It happened just after 1am in Easton Square on Saturday 3rd July.

A 51-year-old man was taken to hospital with head and face injuries, a 46-year-old woman was discharged after being treated for a hand injury.

Detectives say five teenage boys aged between 14 and 19 who were arrested in connection with the incident have now been bailed.

Police sealed off the scene of the assault in Easton Square and crime scene investigators carried out a detailed forensic examination of the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Fiona Grant said: "This was a serious assault on a couple who were on holiday and out walking on Portland.

"There would have been a lot of young people in the area around the time of the assault because a Royal Manor school prom event had taken place on Portland on the Friday evening.

"Someone somewhere - perhaps several people - knows, or suspects they know, who was responsible for this serious assault on this couple.
