Football Stadium Plans Approved

An application by Poole Town Football Club for an area of land in Canford Magna has been approved by Borough of Poole's Planning Committee.

Members of the committee voted unanimously to grant the club's application, subject to conditions, at a meeting held on Thursday 14 April at The Hamworthy Club.

Poole Town FC have been given permission to use part of land west of Bearwood off Magna Road to develop a football ground to include two playing pitches, the erection of a stand and pavilion, flood lighting, boundary fencing and a 156 space car park.

A planning officer's report to the committee had recommended refusal of the football club's application.

Stephen Thorne, Head of Planning and Regeneration Services, Borough of Poole, said:

"Members of the Planning Committee considered the application for Poole Town Football Club and in weighing up all the issues concluded that this was an exceptional application for a number of reasons.

"Members also made it clear that the remainder of the land should be safeguarded for future employment use in accordance with the council's Core Strategy."

The committee also approved the planning conditions and legal agreements be delegated to the Head of Planning and Regeneration Services to finalise the detail. Conditions will ensure the landscaping and access is suitable for the development.
