Lights Out In Weymouth And Portland

Parts of Weymouth and Portland will be in darkness from tonight as 5000 streetlights get switched off overnight to save money.

Dorset County Council tell heart it'll save them £55million over 3 years.

The selected areas will have their street lighting switched off between midnight and 5.30am every day.

However around 2,800 street lights will be left on overnight in area's where there are significant concern over road safety and crime, including main roads and ones with speed humps.

A spokesperson at the county council said: 

"These changes will eventually be extended to all towns and villages across the county council area over the next two years."
